So now that my brain is not absorbed in medicare billing, I've had a lot of time to get back to a pasttime that I've been neglecting. I've been doing a lot of reading :) So far I read: ( Cut for those who aren't intrested )

Hoping to read more before we leave for Japan! I also have ASOIAF books 1 &2 on my ipod. I'd like to get all four for the journey. I may skip A Game of Thrones because that one didn't confuse me as much as 2 & 3. 4 was easy to understand because I feel like it wasn't as good as the others. I will miss English libraries and bookstores in Japan. I'm sure I'll manage. It's not like we'll be living in a bush in the middle of the ocean or anything.

I'm actually pleased with this quiz and the results. Secure with anxious ambi (the actual nomenclature, they switched out of sepreate adult and child attachment namings) is usually what a score, with a varying degree depending on what you're asking me to focus on.

Mom's meeting with her lawyer today. She'll be driving down at some point to help spread Granny's ashes. She wanted them spread over her mother's grave in Arcadia, FL.

I NEED books to read. I have this book craving, and I need stuff to read. Granted, I'm reading Glasser's book on Reality Therapy, but I want some good fiction or non-psych nonfiction. So suggestions?

So in a fit of goal directed behavior (I engage in periods of very strong goal directed behavior and I try to get as much as I can done before I slide back into laziness. Hopefully the warm weather will keep this streak going a bit longer than usual) I decided to do more work on my panel...sorry to everyone who may hear me tlak about it constantly, but most of it is thinking out loud, because I talk to myself...in a completely nonpsychotic way...did I mention I like ellipsis and have had 3 cups of coffee today.

Rather than posting "Hey ya'll what anime has psych in it?" I thought I'd mention the specific topics I'm looking to address.

Social Psych: Group think

Of most social psych concepts, I think this might be the easiest to find in anime....trying to figure out a way to work in Patapon because I'm a big loser. I will probably pull Grave of the Fireflies since it takes place during world war two, which contained classic examples of groupthink. I might work "mob mentality" in as well so I can discuss rioting in the streets because who doesn't love that?

Cognitive: Memory
Yeah, I know, anime is loaded with it. I'm mostly looking at how memories are formed, amnesia, false memories, and recall errors. At a friend's suggestion I'm looking into Elizabeth Loftus's work on memory.

SO yeah, throw out suggestions and I'll evaluate as I go. I've got plenty for the developmental, personality, and abnormal parts. This is kind of where my undergrad focus was so those are easy. Any suggestions at all are appreciated :) I hope no one feels like they're doing my homework for me :-/

Guess who is (unless she's misinterpretting the email) doing a panel at Anime Central??? ME!!!!! YAY!!!

My panel will be on psychology in anime. I plan to use anime to illustrate psych concepts in way that "Hey, here's a concept, to make it more clear we see this in this serise" Not "hey, anime is cool and if you see this anime you see this psych concept" I'll probably be needing people to pilot my presentation on once i get things more firmed up. I want to give a good presentation.

I went to an Eva panel and they fapped for a while about how Asuka is Gendo's daughter really and then they make this big statement "ASUKA is the Id" and how it explains why she treats people poorly and they asked for comments. Now I made the mistake of positing a diffrent theory and saying "What about looking at attachment as a way of explaing why she treats others this way?" and they essentially said "NO!! Attachment has nothing to do with EVA, no one is attached to anyone, that's the point" At which point I quitely snuck out because it was time for the masquerade and I wasn't going to argue with them and be "that bitchy girl who argued with us and ruined our panel" It inspired me to do my own psych panel because it was really really well attended. I talked to some of the people I met on Saturday night and most of them seemed to like the idea. Granted we were drinking and the best worst ideas ever are good when you've been drinking.


So my question to you all is what anime serise would you like to see in a panel on psychology and anime? If you can give me the concept so I don't have to hunt for it, my life will be easier but I know not everyone here is a psych major. Some are give aways (ex. Eva) but some are more obscure (ex. Welcome to the NHK). I'd appreciate all the help I can get.

PS. I know I'm starting really early but I'm giving myself time to watch serise that I may have not seen. I'm current watching Welcome to the NHK and Ghost Hound and am about to start Persona Trinity. All help welcome!!! I am really cracked out on some kind of caffine right now...but I had coffee 5 horus ago...maybe I'm having a big upswing is all. Maybe my system finally rebooted from the con.
